Dear Clinton,
   Set envinronment variable CAD_HOME *prior* to compiling (points to the
installation directory, usually /home/cad or somesuch), or else provide
a full pathname at the first prompt in "make config" instead of accepting
the default value "~cad".  "Magic" assumes the existence of a user named
"cad", so if it does not exist, the tilde ("~") expansion doesn't do
anything.  If installed in /usr/local/, for instance, then CAD_HOME is
/usr/local.
