    anytime a "save;flush" maneuver fixes weirdness in magic, it might be
    due to an insufficent number of planes and/or types (internal magic
    data structures) in your version of magic -- see if the same thing
    happens with any *.light* techfiles (which use fewer types).  for more

    not sure what you mean by this.

    i believe your mag file is fine, even with unsorted and repeated
    layers.
