If someone could clear up the second issue for me, I could work on > the first one. wow, great! the only manhatten only rule i'm aware of is the so-called 'poly exclusion zone', the rectangular area beyond the edge of a gate, where you cannot have the "other" select. eg. for an nfet, you cannot have p-select within (say) X in the x-dir as well as within Y in the y-dir. by any chance, did you also put in a wide-metal rule facility ? (to force larger spacing when one of the edges is of a "wide" width shape). /jeff
