    Dear Ben,

I have the PLA tools distribution compiled under Linux, although
the Make environment is still rather primitive (requires hand-editing
the Makefile on each program to specify the install directory, etc.).
The "libmpack.a" library in the distribution corresponds to magic
version 7.1.7, in which I made a few changes to support mpack. The
revision 7.1.7 is also posted on my website on the same page, but
you should not need it to compile the other programs, since the
library is included with the distribution.

The web page for downloading PLA tools (mpla, mquilt, peg, and meg)
    is:
    	http://bach.ece.jhu.edu/~tim/programs/magic

Click on "Version 7.1 (Distribution)" and scroll down the page to
    the "Downloads" section.

Let me know if you have any questions or difficulties.

    					Regards,
    					Tim
