CAD_HOME nust be set to the directory where you have installed magic.
If _you_installed magic then CAD_HOME must have been set _before_ 
compilation of magic.

That's what i've done:
mkdir -p /usr/local/magic

export CAD_HOME=/usr/local/magic

^this line is put in $HOME/.bash_profile

then
. $HOME/.bash_profile

then cd in the directory where the magic sources are

make config
make
make install

then the magic should be installed in
/usr/local/magic

you should add the directory 
/usr/local/magic/bin 
to your path

then you should be able to run magic (if everything went well) 
with no problems.

You can set CAD_HOME to /usr/local but i don't recommend it.
