    I think you are referring to plane initialisation, where the initial four
    tiles are the boundaries of the layout space.

    The source code is probably not the best place to figure out corner
    stitching.  You should get and read the set of papers on Magic published
    in the ACM IEEE 21st/22nd Design Automation Conference.  These are
    referenced in the Magic maintenance documentation (maint2.ps in the doc
    subdirectory of the source code).
