It was around 7.2.5x. I don't knot exactly which version. It would be
nice if
you could add a -v switch to magic to print the version number  
But it could be because I upgraded XFree86 from version 4.3 to version
4.4

No it's the same behaviour but it's more visible with the toolbar
because the window grows when the mouse pointer is moved over the
toolbar to accomodate to 
the layer names. Strange enough it only works without resizing the
window. If 
i resize the window magic works well (i.e. this problem doesn't
appear).
