I had a similar problem to Professor Sharma, but in my case the only problem was caused by having Emulate3Buttons set in my XF86Config. I'm using a Trekker Wheel Mouse PS/2 Compatible. I just checked in Magic and with the settings I'm using everything is fine. I can right click and hold, then left click to extend the bottom-left of the selection box. I can then press the middle button to paint the selected region with the paint under the cursor. A good check for the mouse is simply to run mev under a console window (not in an X session). The left, center and right mouse buttons report mouse events on buttons 4, 2 and 1 respectively (both on press and release). If I try really hard to push left and right simultaneously it reports events on button 5, which I assumes is just reporting 1 + 4 = 5. Pushing the central wheel reports button 2. Again, if I try really hard for simultaneous depression of the left and center buttons I can get it to report a 6. Clearly, at least in my case, the mouse can report individually which combination of buttons is pressed. Of course I'm sure that not all wheel mice are so well behaved. Doing the check outside of X in this way is probably a good way of separating out the effects of what the mouse is reporting from what X is interpreting. -Rob Penny (rob AT ucsd DOT edu)
