    remember that magic has the limitation of only 26 non-interacting
    layers (planes).
    
    actually, if all you want to do is VIEW a gds file, then just do a
    free evaluation of the GDS viewer from:
    
    GDSVU GDSII View_Plot Utility http://www.artwork.com/gdsii/gdsvu/gdsvuw.htm
    
    they have both windows and unix versions.
