Well, Stefan, I can tell you that the "unable to allocate 7 planes ..." message exists in grTk1.c line 569 and grX11su1.c line 605. In both cases, either openGL or X11 it seems to be indicating an inability on your system to have sufficient color planes to do the graphics required. I can tell you that I see none of that in any of my Linux systems, so I have to believe it is something with your Mac setup. I am saddened by your being thwarted getting to the interesting part of tclspice and magic playing together better by things like compilation and color plane issues. I wish I had a Mac here to setup and test magic, but alas, that is not to be. Hope this helps a little bit.
